Wellness Center in Opelika, AL — Tiger Town Wellness at Herring Spine & Rehab
A wellness center is more than a place you go when something hurts. It is a practice built around keeping you healthy — addressing acute problems when they arise, managing chronic conditions over time, and supporting the kind of long-term physical function that lets you stay active, stay off medication, and stay out of a surgeon's office. Herring Spine & Rehab has been that practice for East Alabama patients since 1981.
Tiger Town Wellness is the medical arm of Herring Spine & Rehab, operating on-site at the Gateway Drive location in Opelika since 2005. Together, the chiropractic and medical teams function as a single, integrated wellness center — sharing records, coordinating care plans, and treating patients who need anything from a post-injury adjustment to a physician-supervised weight loss program to hormone optimization therapy.
The World Health Organization defines health as a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being — not merely the absence of disease. That definition fits what this practice has offered for more than four decades: care that goes beyond treating the immediate problem and works toward the kind of sustained function patients can maintain for life.
What the Wellness Center Offers
Herring Spine & Rehab is a full-service wellness center in the sense that matters most — it covers the full spectrum of care a patient might need to manage pain, recover from injury, maintain spinal health, lose weight, balance hormones, and support overall physical function. All of it happens at one location, coordinated by a team that communicates directly.
On the chiropractic side, the practice treats back and neck pain, disc conditions, sciatica, headaches and migraines, numbness and tingling, joint injuries, sports injuries, and post-accident recovery. Physiological therapies — spinal decompression, traction, electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound, cold laser, deep moist heat, and cryotherapy — are available to support and extend the work of chiropractic adjustments. Same-day X-rays are taken and read on-site at every first visit.
On the medical side, Tiger Town Wellness adds non-narcotic pain management, inflammation treatment, muscle spasm care, physician-supervised medical weight loss, men's hormone optimization therapy, B-12 and other injections, and general wellness support. The two sides of the practice work together on every patient who needs both.

Wellness as a Long-Term Relationship, Not a One-Time Visit
One of the things that distinguishes Herring Spine & Rehab from a standard chiropractic office is the number of patients who have been coming for years — or decades. That kind of retention does not happen at practices that are only focused on acute care. It happens when a practice has demonstrated, visit after visit, that it can keep patients functioning at a level they could not maintain on their own.
For many patients in Opelika and Auburn, the wellness model looks like this: an initial injury or acute pain episode brings them in, the chiropractic and medical team resolves the immediate problem, and the patient continues with periodic maintenance visits to prevent recurrence. Others come in specifically for preventive care — to stay aligned, stay active, and stay off medication as they age.
The Auburn-Opelika corridor is home to a wide range of patients who benefit from this model. Auburn University athletes and active adults managing the accumulated load of years of physical activity. Older patients with degenerative conditions who want to stay mobile without surgery. Working adults in manufacturing and logistics near the I-85 corridor who need consistent spinal care to keep doing physically demanding jobs.
"Dr. Ron literally keeps me straight! Since all my bones are lined up, all other vital parts can function well and I am proud to tell that with added daily exercise and a healthy diet I am not on any medication and I barely get sick. I am ready for the next 50 years of my life!"

The chiropractic side of the practice is led by Dr. Rodney D. Herring, D.C., named Chiropractor of the Year by the Alabama State Chiropractic Association in 2019, and Dr. Ronald D. Herring, D.C., who earned the ASCA's Young Chiropractor of the Year honor in 1989. Dr. Tyler Wilburn, D.C., an Auburn University graduate and Auburn area native, holds Webster Technique certification through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association.
The medical side is built around Dr. Ronald J. Herring, M.D., who completed his residency and a fellowship year as Chief Medical Resident at the Mayo Clinic. He is a member of the American College of Physicians, the Alabama Medical Association, and the Plummer Society. Jeff Sanders, FNP-BC, handles day-to-day medical consultations and is board-certified through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
The practice also holds auxiliary staff privileges at East Alabama Health — giving the chiropractic physicians the ability to order MRIs, CT scans, and bone density tests when a case requires more than on-site X-rays can show.
