Acute pain management in Opelika is available at Herring Spine & Rehab, located on Gateway Drive near Tiger Town. Our team has been treating patients across East Alabama since 1981, and since 2005, we’ve integrated medical staff directly into our practice through Tiger Town Wellness to handle both the chiropractic and medical sides of pain care.
When acute pain sets in — from a sudden injury, a flare-up, or an accident — the last thing you want is to wait weeks for an appointment or get bounced between offices. We handle both chiropractic and medical care under one roof, which means faster answers and a more connected treatment plan.
Our approach to acute pain is non-narcotic. We use medically supervised options that address the source of pain without the risks that come with opioid prescriptions.
Acute pain comes on suddenly and is usually tied to a specific event — a car accident on I-85, a slip and fall, a work injury, or a weekend of overdoing it. In East Alabama, we see a lot of patients who pushed too hard on the farm, at a construction job, or out on the athletic fields at Auburn University.
Common causes include muscle strains, joint injuries, herniated discs, nerve compression, and soft tissue damage. These injuries often show up as sharp pain in the lower back, neck, shoulder, or extremities. Left untreated, acute pain can turn into a long-term problem that takes months to resolve instead of weeks.
The good news is that early, targeted treatment gives you the best shot at a full recovery.
When you come in, our providers do a full assessment to figure out exactly what’s going on. We have on-site X-ray with same-day results right here at our Gateway Drive location, so we don’t have to send you somewhere else and wait days for a reading.
Our doctors of chiropractic also have auxiliary staff privileges at East Alabama Health, which includes the ability to order MRIs, CT scans, bone density tests, and other diagnostic imaging when needed. Our medical staff and chiropractic physicians review findings together, so nothing gets missed and your care plan reflects the full picture.
Tiger Town Wellness at Herring Spine & Rehab provides in-house medical assessment and treatment as a direct complement to chiropractic care. For acute pain, this may include non-narcotic prescriptions or injections of corticosteroids, NSAIDs, and muscle relaxants — all aimed at reducing inflammation, relieving muscle spasms, and calming the nervous system quickly.
On the chiropractic side, our doctors use spinal adjustments, manual therapies, and rehabilitative techniques to address the structural causes of your pain. Decompression therapy, electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound therapy, and cold laser therapy are also available and used regularly for acute injuries.
The combination of medical and chiropractic care in a single practice means your treatment plan is coordinated from day one, not assembled from separate offices that never talk to each other.
Herring Spine & Rehab has been treating East Alabama families since 1981. Dr. Ron Herring has been in private practice in Opelika since that year. Dr. Rod Herring earned the Alabama State Chiropractic Association’s Chiropractor of the Year award in 2019, and both Herrings received Young Chiropractor of the Year honors from the ASCA early in their careers.
Our medical team includes Dr. Ronald J. Herring, M.D., who completed his residency at the Mayo Clinic, and Jeff Sanders, F.N.P.-B.C., a board-certified family nurse practitioner. They work directly alongside our chiropractic physicians every day.
We accept most major insurance providers including BCBS, Aetna, Humana, United Healthcare, and Medicare. We do not require contracts — patients pay per visit and choose the level of care that works for them.
One patient summed it up: “By far the best and most professional chiropractor I’ve been to. I’ve been a patient here for 6 years and love it.”
